The Testament
acrylic on canvas

This piece is my attempt to portray the portrait of a time as art is a part of our cultural inheritance. The mirror figure is a depiction of what we all feel and a reflection of us all.

Sana Dalawa ang Puso Ko
oil on canvas

The artwork entitled “Sana Dalawa ang Puso ko” is a self-portrait that tackles an ongoing inner conflict between pursuing your Art and having a personal life. For an Artist, it has always been a great struggle to juggle your obligations and relationships. By finding inspiration in every day activities and using it as muse in all artistic endeavors. It is a strange but amusing that all artists struggles with a neverending love affair, an invisible lover, a sweet and vengeful sweetheart that will torment your every waking moment till you quench her thirst. That sweet virginal longing of her creative touch…. That mistress is your ART. It is timely and ironic that this pandemic, while the world was in free fall and people was struggling with isolation. The Artist and his Muse continue to create their melancholic music.

I AM A.I. Artificial Igorot
carved fiber board, acrylic, oil, printers ink, and clear acrylic spray

The work is about identity transformation and adaption to the digital age. In the future, I imagine myself examined and scanned in a machine like an MRI or perhaps a a photocopier where this funny lights passes to the whole body several times and another set of multicolored lights makes another pass that you can feel right in your bones.

In my mind, I ask myself, “Am I being given a virus? Or an implant?”

At the end, I am given a detailed picture of what and who I am. And, just before I step out, I hear.. “ Next. “ from a piped in speaker.

Rebirth
oil on canvas

My self-portrait is all about inner peace during quarantine, which I am able to achieve through prayer. In a sense, my art is a prayer.

Labyrinths of Our Mind
oil on wood

We look up to heavens and say
Why this happened to me?
Like the Minotaur from Crete
we are primal
Raw
an untamed soul
We shout to the heavens and say
Do I deserve this?!
We fear the unknown
We fear the monsters inside of us
We fear our weaknesses
We fear the dark corners that haunts us
We fear the uncertainty
and the maze of everyday struggle that we are facing.
Yet like a bull stubborn and proud we stand to our ground
An impatient and resilient, mindless and rational, instinctual and spiritual creature pleading to the heavens
I am your child
Deliver me from my sins
And this plague that is hurting us all day and night.

A Different Fish
acrylic on canvas

As a part of the LGBTQ+ community, representation is quite important to me. In this piece, I wanted to show how different I may look like, but I am still the same as the creature next to me.

In the same way that a plant requires care, we also need to be loved and taken care of especially with our situation right now. Through art, we may find the comfort and healing that we need.
